EXPLORE THE CONCEPTS

We refer to the "concept" as the primary source of inspiration used in the creation of each bag or pouch. Therefore, each collection falls under one of the three concept ideas listed below. A lot of them overlap!

HANDLOOM

This concept is about items made solely from handwoven textiles sourced and made all over India. From collected Dhurrie rugs to rustic handloom checks and stunning Ikats, we put together simple and practical bags for your daily errands. DHURRI are one-of-a-kind pieces, CHECKS and IKAT are limited editions of about 10 to 15 pcs per fabric design.

UPCYCLE

All of the products created for the UPCYCLE CONCEPT are manufactured from waste materials that are repurposed into unique, handcrafted textiles for bags and pouches. We use various fabric and plastic wastes, such as rejected print runs from the packaging or cosmetics industries, discarded labels, failed fabric developments, and more. We also use waste textiles from factories in India and overseas that are cut into strips and handwoven or braided into new textiles.

LOCALOVE

This idea revolves around pieces made with materials and objects Lili found at India's numerous amazing local bazaar markets. Lili disassembles and then reassembles commonplace Indian objects or materials, such as blankets, rags, and bathroom mats, into quirky and entertaining fashion accessories. Lili gathers them all, whether it's a gorgeous winter blanket with huge flowers from North Delhi or a colourful striped throw from a village street market. After a while, she brings them to life in a fresh and interesting way, sharing her passion of everyday India with you.

EXPLORE THE JOURNEY

Joli India was launched end of 2010

My dear friend and flat mate Jonas and I had been sketching and brainstorming on exciting ideas for a while. Although we both had jobs, we spent our evenings and weekends relentlessly designing bags, pouches and wallets inspired by our love for local India. Jonas & I, shared an almost unbearable enthusiasm for the colours, textures, materials, objects and artefacts we discovered as we wandered through Delhi’s labyrinthine streets and markets.

So infectious, these experiences gradually inspired us to start “Joli, proudly made in India”.

Jonas (Jo) & I (Lili) = Jo & Li = Joli
“Joli” which also means “pretty” in French.
