Handloom Concept

This concept is about items made solely from handwoven textiles sourced and made all over India. From collected Dhurrie rugs to rustic handloom checks and stunning Ikats, we put together simple and practical bags for your daily errands. DHURRI are one-of-a-kind pieces, CHECKS and IKAT are limited editions of about 10 to 15 pcs per fabric design.
For the Dhurri Collection, each piece is unique. They are made from handwoven cotton carpets collected from different suppliers or markets. We purchase many of the carpets from Amit, who heads a collective of weavers in Mirzapur. He single-handily supports experienced weavers to ensure they have enough work so they can sustain a basic living. Amit shares with Lili, how most of the production/quantity orders he receives through buying agents are not profitable and that the margins are very small. But these orders provide a constant flow of work, which is what is needed to make sure the weavers are paid regularly and therefore can live a decent life. Amit is passionate about what he does. He’s that main middle guy that gets the orders, prepares the materials, gives the works, takes care of the finishing of the carpets and sends them out.
Our Ikat collection, is simply an homage to that beautiful handloom fabric that is the Ikaat. The process to prepare an Ikaat fabric is a tedious one. The yarns are resist dyed directly onto the warp and/or the weft before being woven. We are absolutely in love with the designs and textures that this textile from Telegana and other states of India offers. Lili collects them from different suppliers she meets, and orders small runs to make her limited editions of Ikat Shoulder Bags.

EXPLORE THE CONCEPTS

We refer to the "concept" as the primary source of inspiration used in the creation of each bag or pouch.
Therefore, each collection falls under one of the three concept ideas below. A lot of them overlap!

UPCYCLE CONCEPT

All of the products created for the UPCYCLE CONCEPT are manufactured from waste materials that are repurposed into unique, handcrafted textiles for bags and pouches. We use various fabric and plastic wastes, such as rejected print runs from the packaging or cosmetics industries, discarded labels, failed fabric developments, and more.

LOCALOVE CONCEPT

This idea revolves around pieces made with fabrics & materials Lili found at India’s numerous amazing local bazaar markets. Lili disassembles and then reassembles these commonplace Indian soft furnishings into quirky fashion accessories. Slowly, she gives them a new refreshing life and purpose, sharing her passion of everyday India with you.
